Formats
HEIC files
Apple's photo format, and what an iPhone saves by default. It is roughly half the size of a JPEG at the same quality, and it is refused by a great deal of software that is not made by Apple.
Convert HEIC to
Arazio converts HEIC to eight formats. All of them sit on the ring.
Tools that work on HEIC
Hold ⌥ over a HEIC instead of ⇧ and these appear. They change the file without changing its format.
What it keeps
- Lossy — quality is traded for size, and converting repeatedly compounds the loss.
- Transparency — an alpha channel survives the conversion.
- Metadata — EXIF and similar fields are carried across, and the Strip Metadata tool can remove them.
Where the file goes
Beside the original, in the same folder, with the same name and a new extension. Nothing is overwritten and nothing is uploaded — see Privacy and permissions.
Extensions: .heic, .heif · Category: image · HEIC converts to eight formats — hold ⇧ and they appear around the cursor.
