# Changelog

What changed in each release, newest first. Arazio checks for updates once a
day and will show you these notes before installing anything; you can also
[download the latest version directly](LATEST_DOWNLOAD) if you have turned
automatic checks off.

Version numbers follow [semantic versioning](https://semver.org): the first
number changes when something you have to relearn changes, the second when
there is something new, the third when something is only fixed.

## 1.0.9 — 14 September 2026

- **Crop offers 9:16 and 16:10.** The ratios were 1:1, 16:9 and 4:3, which left
out the two shapes people most often need one for: 9:16, what a video has to
be for Reels, Shorts, TikTok and Stories, and 16:10, which is what a Mac
screen — and so every screenshot taken on one — actually is. Pick one and the
rectangle stays locked to it while you drag.

## 1.0.8 — 14 September 2026

- **Copy and paste now work in every window.** ⌘V did nothing anywhere in
Arazio, and the licence field was the worst place for it — a licence key is
the one piece of text nobody types by hand. It was never only paste: ⌘C,
⌘X, ⌘A and ⌘Z were dead too. A text field does not handle those
keystrokes itself; macOS routes them through the app's menu, and an app that
lives only in the menu bar has no menu for them to arrive through. It has one
now. Nothing new appears on screen — it exists so the keys reach the field you
are typing in. ⌘W closes a window for the same reason.

## 1.0.7 — 13 September 2026

- **The percentage no longer sticks at 8% on larger files.** The counter was
lifted off zero on time alone so a conversion that reports nothing still
looks alive — but because it never goes backwards, that head start became a
floor. Anything big enough to take a while showed 8% and stopped there until
the encoder genuinely passed 8%. The head start is now 3%, and the clock
stops contributing the moment the engine reports anything real.
- **Merge now asks what order to join the files in.** It is the one tool whose
setting is the sequence rather than a value — the same three clips in a
different order are a different film — and until now that order came from
however Finder handed the files over, with no way to see it or change it.
Drag to reorder, or select and use the arrows.
- **Merge is no longer offered for a single file.** It was shown and then
  refused the job.
- **Different kinds of file can no longer be converted together at all.**
Dragging an image with a PDF offered a full ring, because a PNG converts to
PDF and a PDF converts to PNG, so the two overlapped. A photo and a contract
are not one job. Images go with images, videos with videos, and the Portal
says so. Within one kind nothing changes: ten images of different formats
still offer whatever all ten can become.
- **Dragging different kinds of file together now says so.** A video and a PDF
offer nothing in common, and the Portal said "Nothing to convert" — which
reads as though Arazio could not do it. It now says to pick one kind.
- **Compress and Resize can be set once for a whole selection, or file by
file.** A checkbox beside the button switches between them; leaving it alone
applies one setting to everything, which is what most batches want. Going
file by file walks the selection, and a second checkbox converts each file as
you finish with it, so the batch is nearly done by the time you reach the last
  one.
- **Crop, Trim and Split work on several files again.** They ask once per file —
"File 3 of 10" — because a rectangle chosen on one photo is a different crop
on another, and an out-point at 0:20 does not exist in a twelve-second clip.
Each file can convert as you finish with it, so ten files feel like one.
- **Progress could still go backwards at the very start.** The engine reports
"it has started" before FFmpeg says anything, so a long probe does not look
like a hang — but that value bypassed the check that keeps the rest of the
stream rising, so the first real report could be lower than it.
- **The Portal and the menu bar now show the same number.** They were fed from
two different places — one the paced figure, the other the engines' own — so
the same conversion could read 8% under the cursor and 3% in the menu bar.

## 1.0.6 — 13 September 2026

- **Arazio no longer appears in ⌘-Tab or the Dock.** It lives in the menu bar
and is driven by a drag, so an icon offering to bring it forward was offering
something that does not exist. Every window it opens — Settings, Licence,
About, the tool sheets — still comes to the front exactly as before.
- **A new "Open at Login" item in the menu.** Off until you turn it on. If
macOS refuses, or you have switched it off in System Settings, Arazio says so
rather than leaving a checkbox that will not stay ticked.
- **A clearer message when a licence key is not accepted.** Pasting one of the
reference numbers that sit alongside the key now says so plainly and shows
what a key looks like, instead of describing a payment dashboard you have
  never seen.

## 1.0.5 — 12 September 2026

- **Trimming a video is no longer limited to keyframes.** The scrubber snapped
to them, so on a file with a five-second gap between keyframes — most screen
recordings — the handle moved in five-second jumps and there was no way to
ask for a cut in between. The handle now goes where you put it. Landing on a
keyframe still gives the instant, lossless trim; anywhere else re-encodes so
the cut is exactly where you asked. Keyframes are marked on the timeline and
a handle dropped near one snaps to it, so the fast path is still easy to pick.
- **Trimming an MKV from a point between keyframes kept the extra footage.**
Asking for 2s to 8s produced an eight-second file starting at zero. MP4 and
MOV hid the same extra video behind an edit list. Both now cut exactly.
- Typed start and end times are used exactly, instead of being moved to the
  nearest keyframe.

## 1.0.4 — 10 September 2026

- **Report an Issue**, in the menu and in the About window. It opens a mail to
support with the version, your macOS and your Mac model already filled in,
and three questions worth answering. Nothing is sent until you press send.
- **Fixed Crop returning the wrong part of an image.** The crop was mirrored
vertically: select the top of a photo and you got the bottom. Videos were
never affected — only images, and only in the up-down direction, so a
selection near the middle came back looking almost right.

## 1.0.3 — 10 September 2026

- **Fixed conversions being refused on external drives.** Arazio reported
"only Zero KB free" on drives that had hundreds of gigabytes free, and
refused to convert anything stored on them. It affected any disk not
formatted as APFS or Mac OS Extended — which is most external drives,
including ones shared with a PS5, a camera or a Windows PC.

## 1.0.2 — 10 September 2026

- The welcome now offers a sample file to practise the gesture on, written to
your Downloads folder and selected in Finder. Convert it, delete it, ignore
it — it is there so your first drag is not one of your own files.
- **How to Use Arazio** in the menu now opens that same guide, instead of a
shorter note that said slightly different things.

## 1.0.1 — 10 September 2026

- **Fixed a crash on launch.** Arazio quit immediately on startup on any Mac
other than the one it was built on. If 1.0.0 would not open for you, this
release fixes it — nothing was wrong with your Mac or your licence.

## 1.0.0 — 9 September 2026

First release.

- Convert a file from the drag itself: pick it up in Finder, hold **⇧**, and
release toward a format. The result lands in the same folder, next to the
  original.
- **283 conversions** across images, video, audio, documents and archives. The
ring only ever offers conversions that are tested to work — every one of them
is exercised before a release can be built.
- **14 file tools** behind **⌥**: Compress, Resize, Crop, Rotate, Flip, Trim,
Split, Merge, Extract, Extract Audio, Extract Pages, Remove Audio, Normalize
  and Strip Metadata.
- Holding both modifiers shows whatever the first ring had no room for, rather
than repeating what you were just looking at.
- Container changes are detected and stream-copied instead of re-encoded, so a
MOV to MP4 finishes in about the time it takes to copy the file, without
  touching quality.
- Nothing is uploaded. The conversion engines have no networking code linked
into them at all, and the build fails if that stops being true.
- Automatic updates, signed and verified before anything is installed.
