# Updates

Arazio updates itself. It checks for a new version, tells you what changed, and
installs it when you say so.

## Every version is included

**All updates are free, including major versions.** There is no upgrade fee and
no version number at which your licence stops working.

That is [clause 5 of the terms](/terms) rather than a promise on a marketing
page, which is the difference between something you can rely on and something
you cannot.

## How it works

Arazio asks `updates.arazioformac.com` whether there is a newer version. The
request contains the version you are running and nothing else — no licence
key, no identifier, no file names, nothing about what you have converted.

If there is an update, you get a window with the release notes and a button.
Nothing installs without you pressing it.

Updates are signed, and the signature is checked before anything is replaced.
An update that fails that check is discarded.

## Turning it off

**Settings → General → Check for updates** switches it off. Arazio then never
contacts the network at all, except the one activation request.

If you turn it off, [the changelog](/changelog) is the place to find out what
you are missing.

## What changed, and when

[The changelog](/changelog) lists every release with what it added and fixed,
newest first. It is the same text the update window shows.
