# GZIP files

A single compressed file, like BZ2 — usually wrapped around a TAR, which is where .tar.gz comes from.

## Convert GZIP to

7Z, BZ2, TAR, XZ, ZIP.

## Tools that work on GZIP

Hold Option rather than Shift: Extract.

## Where the file goes

Beside the original, same folder, same name, new extension. Nothing is overwritten and nothing is uploaded.

Extensions: .gz · Category: archive
