# File actions

Hold <kbd>⌃</kbd> mid-drag and you get a ring that has nothing to do with
converting. Six things to do with a file.

These work on **any** file — an application, a folder, a `.sketch`, a mixed
selection — including everything Arazio cannot convert.

## AirDrop

Opens the share sheet with the file already attached. Saves opening Finder's
menu, finding Share, and finding AirDrop inside it.

## Shelf

Parks the file in a small floating window so you can pick it up later from a
different app. [The Shelf has its own page](/docs/the-shelf).

## Copy

Puts the file itself on the clipboard — not its path. Paste it into a Finder
window and you get a copy of the file.

## Move

Asks for a destination folder and moves the file there. The ring gets out of
the way while the folder picker is open.

This is a move, not a copy: the original is gone from where it was.

## Copy Path

Puts the full path on the clipboard as text. For pasting into a terminal, a
config file, or a message to someone who needs to know where a thing lives.

## Terminal

Opens the file's folder in Terminal, already `cd`-ed there.

## Why these six

They are the things people do with files immediately after finding them in
Finder, each of which otherwise takes a menu or a window. The ring is already
open under your cursor because you were dragging anyway.

## Folders and mixed selections

All six work on folders. All six work on a selection containing several
different kinds of thing — which is the case where the formats ring has
nothing to offer, because there is no format that is sensibly both a video and
a spreadsheet.
